Minimal interiors get a bad reputation for feeling like showrooms — beautiful, but unlived-in. The fix isn't more objects. It's better layering of a few honest materials.
/ 01Start with the floor
Every warm-minimal scheme starts at the ground. Wide-plank oak, brushed and oiled, gives the room a base that reads soft underfoot and warm under light.
In Istanbul apartments the floor is usually the largest uninterrupted surface you own. Get its tone right and the walls can stay quiet.
/ 02The three-material rule
Pick three materials and repeat them. Oak, bouclé and travertine carry a whole living room without a single decorative object.
Repetition is what separates calm from bare. The same oak in the floor, the shelf and the table leg tells the eye the room was composed, not assembled.

/ 03Design the negative space
Empty wall is a material too. Leave one plane completely untouched and every considered object in the room gets room to register.
- Leave one wall empty.
- Float furniture off the walls.
- Let the floor breathe.
- Repeat each material at least twice.
/ 04Warmth comes from light
A warm-minimal room lit at 4000K reads like an office. Colour temperature is the cheapest, most decisive lever you have.
