Bouclé earned its reputation for being precious, and most of that reputation is undeserved. What it actually asks for is the right weave in the right room.
/ 01Density beats colour
A loose, long-looped bouclé snags. A dense, short-looped one shrugs off a household. Ask for the loop count before you argue about the shade.
/ 02Sun is the real enemy
Istanbul light through a south-facing window will lift colour out of any natural fibre. Bouclé is no worse than linen here, but it shows fade unevenly across its loops.
Sheer a bright window or rotate cushions seasonally, and the piece ages evenly instead of in patches.

/ 03Cleaning, honestly
Blot, never rub — rubbing opens the loops and the damage is permanent. Vacuum on low suction with a brush head, not a beater bar.
- Blot spills, never rub.

- Rotate cushions seasonally.
- Sheer any south-facing glass.
/ 04What we upholster in it
We will put bouclé on a sofa, an armchair or a headboard. We will not put it on a dining chair, where it sits directly under plates.
